About Select Start Press
Founded in 2016, Select Start Press was a publication focused on bringing scholarly conversations about Video Games to Gamers and Non-Gamers alike. Founded by Christian Cardenas and Dylan Altman, the Press was a collective that was centered on the impact of digital narratives on the world.
As an English Teacher at one of the premier private schools in Los Angeles, Christian works to infuse film, television, comics, graphic novels, and video games, into his ever evolving curriculum. Having received his BA and MA in Creative Writing from CSUN, Christian continues to write about the things that are most passionate to him: stories about the human condition, and video games. As Co-Founder of Select Start Press, together with his bud Dylan Altman, he plans to use this latest venture as a launching pad to champion digital narratives in all their chaotic glory.
Dylan was born in Long Island, New York and was raised in sunny Southern California. He is a Professor, writer, gamer, and director. He received his B.A. from CSUN in Honors English and Creative Writing in 2011 and his M.A in English in 2014. As a Professor, Dylan likes to encourage his students to think critically about the numerous texts around them, whether they are advertisements, video games, movies, television shows, and more. In 2016, Dylan Co-Founded Select Start Press with Christian Cardenas, in order to develop critical and scholarly conversations about video games.
